HEARTS AND ARROWS
Parentage is (GOOD CLEAN THOUGHTS X INDIGO DELIGHT #1). Midseason'; Scape 26"; Branches 4; Buds 16; Bloom 5"; Fragrant; Reb;Extended;dormant; diploid
HEARTS AND ARROWS has been very much enjoyed for its near constant bloom, high fertility both ways, and lovely blooms. The pale cream petals are centered with a grape eyezone with lavender, gray, and deep purple 'waves' throughout the eyezone. White midribs intersect this eyezone into the green throat forming a heart shape on the outer edge of the eyezone, hence the name! A very interesting look which has garnered many " OOH! Come look at this one!" remarks from garden visitors. HEARTS AND ARROWS is throwing some lovely kids in its first crop of seedlings, and there are more to come. A winner of a daylily!
The eyezone is more dilute on the sepals, making this a bitone as well.
TEACUP CHERRY CHEEKS (in sun)
Parentage is (LITTLE BLUE CALICO X NATURE'S BLUE WITCHES BREW). Scape 18"; Bloom 2"; Extended; Mid-late season;Rebloom; Branches 3; Buds12 and will bud build some years;Diploid; Fragrant.
This has been one of my favorite minis for the past 4 years! It is a medium rose with a lavender-rose halo surrounded by a deep rose pencil band. The pale pink midribs extend into the green throat. There is a wide pale pink picotee edge on ruffled petals with deep red veining over the entire bloom. Sepals are a lighter coral infused rose, making this baby a bitone.
This little flower has always reminded me of the rosy cheeks on my grandbabies faces, hence the name.
When viewed in the shade, there is a lavender wash apparent over the entire bloom. This is unique, as least in my experience, and lends a new avenue for hybridization. TEACUP CHERRY CHEEKS is fertile both ways, but stamens open early, so I collect them the night before the bloom is to open to prevent the pollen granules from becoming wet.
TEACUP SOFT MELODY
Parentage is (JUKE BOX X INDIGO DELIGHT). Scapes 20";Branches 4;Buds 16; Early Midseason; Rebloom; Bloom 3"; Nocturnal; Dormant ;Diploid
Petals are clear, near white and nicely ruffled. A near cerulean blue eyezone with deeper blue veining is surrounded with an irregular deep purple pencil line. A deep purple picotee surrounds the petals and really sets off the color. A bright green throat extends onto the sepals.
This has been a favorite of the many 'blue' toned eyezone daylilies I grow for its very clear coloration. It is a prolific pod setter, and pollen is good if collected the afternoon before the blooms open. I have some babies coming from it in the next couple of years, and am looking forward to more TEACUPS to share! Very limited!!
SUNSET OVER PANAMA (SPLATTER X XOCHOPILI)
SCAPE 20"; BRANCHES 2; BUDS 12; BLOOM 6"; SEMI-EVERGREEN; MID-LATE; TET
Although the scape and bud are not the usual height and high count as I like to register, the unusual blooms are reason enough to introduce SUNSET OVER PANAMA.
A reverse bicolor, the petals are a white/yellow blend with rose/ orange blend sepals both of which are covered with bright red speckled dots. A brilliant yellow throat covers over half the petal face, and a rose/orange picotee edge surrounds the petals and sepals.
This bloom reminds me of the vivid sunsets we have experienced while wintering in Panama City Beach, Florida! The white sand beaches look just like the petals on this daylily when the sunset glow hits them with the brilliant red sky behind them. And the speckling gives the illusion of the sand grains.
As a breeder, this one has been more difficult than most of my intros. The pollen is hot, and I have used it a few times in the past 3 years, but do not have just the right pod parent in my inventory, So here she is, so help yourself to a beautiful and unusual speckled daylily! HOLDING FOR INCREASE
WINE ON THE BEACH
Parentage; Nature's Coffee Club x ({Golden Hibiscus X Super Fancy Face} X {Texas Kaleidoscope X Seedling})
Scape 30"; Branches 4; Buds 20; Reblooms; Midseason; Bloom 5"; Extended; Semi-evergreen; Very fertile ;fragrant.
WINE ON THE BEACH has wine petals with dark purple veining over the entire petals which are nicely ruffled. A small eye of pale lavender centers the blooms above a green throat. A lavender picotee surrounds the petals, and nearly white midribs dissect the petals, making these blooms very striking.
The sepals are very light in tone, almost white on some days, and have variable streaks of purple on the sepals only. When I was comtemplating a name for this seedling, I thought of the white sand beaches of our winter home, and the lovely wines which are also imbibed in these beautiful settings.
I saw my first small crop of seedlings this year from WINE ON THE BEACH, and was very impressed with the clarity of colors, the lovely bicolors, and nice branching. Looking forward to seeing my second crop of seedlings which has a much larger genetic background.
BACK ROW BAPTIST
Parentage is (Oriental Eyes x Emerald Starburst) X CHILD OF SHADOWS. Midseason to late; 40" scape (or more); 4-5 way branching; 20 buds (and bud builds till frost); 3" bloom; diurnal; dormant; diploid
This has been on my list to register since it first bloomed about 5 years ago. Growing in the crowded seedling patch, it shouted AMEN! at me nearly every day. The blooms are a intense wine-purple with a vivid lavender eyezone and bright white PICOTEE EDGE! The bright green throat extends into white spears, sepals repeat the petal and throat colors.
This daylily is a very hardy cultivar, surviving the worst winter weather with little to no mulch or snow cover. With its height, it shouts at you to come appreciate it and I am sure you will say AMEN! in agreement!
sold out for 2024
